The term Direct Fed Microbial (DFM) refers to bacterial
products that are fed to animals. They are live microbial feed
supplements which contribute to the well being of animals by
improving their intestinal microbial balance. The ingestion of
certain micro-organisms is effective in maintaining the balance
among various micro-organisms in the intestinal track.
Since man first brewed beer, baked leavened
bread or made yogurt, microorganisms have been used to process

What is the current status of DFMs with
the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA)?
